Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) is a time standard by which the world regulates clocks and time. UTC is one of several closely related inheritors of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).  GMT may be considered as equivalent to UTC, although the term GMT does not have a precise definition at the sub-second level.
